A Loving Rescue Dog Is Waiting for You

Meet Our Rescue Dogs

The dogs in this section will be ready for adoption after they've completed their medical treatment.

Missy, a female terrier mix under two years old

Missy, a terrier mix dog

Missy is a young, playful, and affectionate terrier mix weighing about 50 pounds. Her family was never found after she followed someone home, so after her stray hold was up, Missy became a foster dog with A Place for Paws Animal Rescue.

She loves to zip around the yard with a toy in her mouth, and she has discovered how much fun it can be to play fetch. When she's relaxing, she enjoys snuggling, being stroked, or just being with her people. She isn't good with cats, and we're still trying to figure out her reactions to other dogs, but she is clearly a people person. Well, a people dog.

In addition to the usual medical treatment dogs in our care receive, Missy needs expensive surgery to remove a mammary tumor. Thanks to the generous people who have donated to pay for her surgery costs, her surgery is scheduled for early May. She'll be available for adoption after she has recovered from her surgery.

What are you?

Started in 2019, we're a 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue that relies 100% on volunteers and the support of donors to fulfill our mission. We rescue, help, and rehome dogs, puppies, and sometimes cats and kittens.

We believe pets are a lifelong commitment. However, life is unpredictable! Our goal is to keep animals out of kill shelters by helping individuals who are terminally ill, who are transitioning to long-term care facilities, or who find themselves in other circumstances in which they need assistance rehoming their pets. We also help stray dogs, some of which need costly medical care after their stray hold is up.

Where are you?

We're in southwest Michigan: Kalamazoo, Portage, Richland, Battle Creek, and surrounding areas.

How are you different?

We're a small group with a focus on providing individual quality care for each animal, finding great adoption matches, and following up to make sure that everything is going well. Our pet foster parents guide the adoption matching process.

Because our rescue dogs and cats are all in foster homes, we learn a lot about their personalities, behavior, and needs. We use this information to look for adopters that are ideal matches. And when you ask about our adoptable pets, we tell you everything we know about them,.

How are donations used?

Aside from our very low operating expenses, 100% of money received goes directly to the medical, food, and other expenses of the animals in our care. All of our rescue dogs and cats have a wellness check with a veterinarian and get microchipped and vaccinated. If they aren't already spayed or neutered and are full grown, we have this procedure done too. In addition, some animals have medical conditions that cost hundreds of dollars more to treat. Your generous donations make it possible for us to help these animals.

Who can join your team?

If you're an animal lover and would like to help, we'd love to hear from you.

How You Can Help

Together, we can help animals in need and find great homes for them.

Adopt

a rescue dog, puppy, cat, or kitten.

When you adopt a rescue animal, you get a special kind of love -- and you make space for the rescue group to help another animal.

Foster

a rescue cat, kitten, dog, or puppy.

We welcome more foster families, even if you can only help for a few days at a time. No experience is needed, just a commitment.

Volunteer

your time and skills to help animals.

We have opportunities for volunteers to help with fundraising (most of which you can do from home), transporting animals, and more.

Donate

once or often -- it all helps!

Our adoption fees often don't cover the cost of getting each animal ready for adoption: veterinary expenses, food, microchipping, and so on. Together, we can do more.

Sponsor

a rescue pet in our care.

Can you help by paying the veterinary or other expenses of one of our rescue animals? Your sponsorship can make a big difference.

Support

our rescue work in other ways.

We'll be talking about more ways that you can support us in the future. When we have more information, we'll post about it here and on our Facebook page.
